I'd been walking for a while - and I didn't plan on turning around anytime soon because I was content. It felt incredible to feel the waves crashing against the beach, running up along the shore to lap across my feet. I'd set out from our island resort nearly an hour prior, grabbing a camera as I left without really thinking about it, and just walked along the deserted beaches with no destination in mind. I rounded a set of rocks (thank goodness it was low tide), and that's when I saw an old, dilapidated jetty off in the distance.
Excited about heading towards something old and dangerous to climb on (as always), I snapped this first frame and kept walking...
NOTE: Just to make things fun, I thought we'd make today's daily blog installment into a little challenge for those of you who read our blog. The challenge, with all of the info, is at the bottom of this post.

As I neared the jetty, I realized that the jetty hadn't been built out of chance. It was the boat access for what was once the Tioman Beauty Beach Resort, which is now completed deserted. In other words, I found a little Jeff-sized playground of abandoned buildings in the middle of the jungle (totally awesome).

One problem, though - I didn't grab any extra memory cards when I left the beach... I only had 19 frames left on the one and only memory card I had in my camera. So instead of switching from RAW to JPG or editing my shots in-camera as I took them, I figured it would be fun to just shoot those 19 shots, and leave the rest to memory. So, I turned off my LCD screen, pretended I was shooting a roll of film, and challenged myself to tell the story of the resort in only 19 frames.
So here's what I came up with of the (abandoned) Tioman Beauty Beach Resort. You be the judge - did I tell a complete story? (Remember, the challenge is at the bottom of this post.)

I'd love to challenge everyone out there to their very own 19 Frames Challenge. Grab your camera, turn off the LCD screen, and challenge yourself by shooting a single scene or event AND tell it's story with one lens (fixed focal length, if possible) in under 19 frames (or 19 frames exactly if you want to be super cool and earn some extra high-fives).
Once you've done this, go ahead and blog it and leave a link to your blog post in the comments. Since I know everyone is super busy this time of year, we'll give this a two-week deadline and in two weeks we'll blog about the winner. And this isn't just for professional photographers with a blog - anybody can participate, with any camera
If you don't have a blog, upload your images to this MobileMe Gallery.
And what does the winner, win? Why a totally awesome $15 shopping spree on iTunes
Because everybody loves them some iTunes, right?
Remember, one scene/event/story in 20 frames or less. No deleting in the camera (or after) and no looking at your LCD.![]()
UPDATE: We've gotten some RAD entries - we're allowing people to submit through the end of today and then tomorrow we'll put up a voting form for people to vote on their favorites![]()

s h e r r y - Love the photos you guys took. And the challenge sounds exciting! I’m definitely thinking about doing it!
Zach - Cool idea. I’ll be dreamin’ up a submission for sure. I love the shot of the oil barrel and the shot down the jetty—the sky especially. Did you do the vignette in post or was that in camera?
damiano - awesome! It sounds like fun..
David Bjorgen - Nicely done. Love the story. I would have like to see a couple versions of the palm-trees-in-a-line, though…perhaps something with a narrower DOF to capture a bit more of the background in focus. The image leaves me wondering what the trees are leading to and what is back there beyond.
