Nixon Library Wedding, Part Two
Ryan and Jen

I’m a sucker for classy weddings with elegant ballrooms that are lit by chandeliers and candlelight. Ryan and Jen’s lovely day was just this – a beautiful garden ceremony at The Richard Nixon Library with an evening reception in a classic ballroom modeled after a state room at the White House. Ashley and her fabulous team at Agape Planning made sure that every beautiful touch was in place and that the day ran flawlessly, while Flower Allie provided the stunning florals. After the ceremony, we spent some time with Ryan and Jen before heading inside to the celebration. 1 person loves this Inside, the…

Nixon Library Wedding, Part One
Ryan and Jen

Ryan’s family knew that Jen was perfect when she showed up, day after day, to care for Ryan. He had been in a terrible snowboarding accident just after they began dating, and her dedication never wavered. Apparently, Jen had determined that ‘in sickness and in health’ had already begun, and she nursed him back to himself during those long, harrowing months. I think that because they fell in love during those difficult days, their connection and partnership showed even stronger during the wonderfully perfect day when they said ‘I do.’ In many ways, they had already said ‘I do’ countless times – every day of showing up…

Downtown Portland Wedding, The Film
Garrett and Heather

It’s another one of those magical afternoons, dear bloggy-blog, when I get to post some dreamy film images of an amazing couple. This lovely bride, Heather, is also a fellow photographer, so we knew that the unmistakable sound of a film camera making images during her wedding day would fill her heart with photographer butterflies. And it definitely did – her eyes would sparkle just a little bit brighter with every shutter! And every time Heather’s eyes would sparkle, Garrett would smile just a little bit bigger. These two are kind of the cutest… I hope you enjoy these film images from Garrett and Heather’s wedding…

Piedmont Estate Wedding, Part Two
Christian and Richelle

We’re continuing this wonderful week on the bloggy-blog with the second half of Christian and Richelle’s pretty-in-pink estate wedding in Piedmont. This day was chock full of emotional moments that made my heart nearly burst out of my chest, which are the best weddings to get a behind scenes pass into. They’re not only photographically beautiful, but emotionally beautiful too! Let’s begin today with the girls saying a little prayer for Richelle just before the sweet ceremony. 2 people love this 2 people love this 1 person loves this 1 person loves this Richelle’s dad not only gave her away, but he…

Piedmont Estate Wedding, Part One
Christian and Richelle

Richelle is one of those confident girls that knew her perfect match would come. She’s gorgeous, smart, confident, and kind, and she definitely had no shortage of suitors. Boys would come into her life often, but she kindly refused, knowing that she wasn’t going to settle, and she didn’t want to mess around in the meantime. Enter Christian. Immediately, Richelle and Christian both knew that they had found someone special – that this could be the person that they would spend their life with. But even though their hearts were smitten, they dated for three years and built a relationship that could carry…

Cafe Pinot Wedding, The Film
Luke and Victoria

Happy lovely fall Friday everyone! As we head into this perfect October weekend, I have some truly yummy eye candy to share! Throughout Luke and Victoria’s library-themed wedding at Cafe Pinot in downtown Los Angeles, we were able to shoot a few rolls of our beloved medium format film, and as always, I’m in love with the results! Just when we thought we had shared all of the goodness, there’s even more to show off! Here’s a handful of our favorite frames from our time inside the Los Angeles Central Library as well as during the wedding festivities down in…

Downtown Portland Wedding, Part Two
Garrett and Heather

San Diego is my first love when it comes to cities, but I have to admit that I left a little bit of my photographer heart in Portland with Garrett and Heather’s downtown wedding. There’s something a bit magical about an old church tucked between the tall buildings of a bustling city and a gorgeous bride and groom arriving to say ‘I do.’ Heather and Garrett held their ceremony at the First Presbyterian Church of downtown Portland, Oregon, and it’s one of those old historic churches with polished wooden pews and a gleaming balcony circling the entire sanctuary. It was jaw-droppingly gorgeous!…

Downtown Portland Wedding, Part One
Garrett and Heather

If love made sense, Garrett and Heather shouldn’t have ended up together. They both had a suitcase of excuses as to why pursuing each other would be a bad idea – they lived in separate parts of the country, they weren’t looking to date anybody, and the timing just wasn’t right in both of their lives. But they emailed each other anyways. And then they called, and then he visited her in Portland. He met her friends and her family, and all along the way, it seemed as though life and circumstances should have gotten in their way. But they still found…

Huntington Beach Wedding, The Film
Steve and Noelle

As an artist, one of the most satisfying experiences is when your art exceeds your own expectations. There so much pushing in art – pushing yourself, pushing your gear, pushing your subjects, and pushing your limits. When all of that turns into a beautiful result, it’s deeply satisfying. Getting the film back from Steve and Noelle’s wedding in Huntington Beach was one of those perfect moments. Everybody in the studio definitely turned their heads when they heard a huge “Wow!” come from my corner of the office as I flipped through the images for the first time. I’m in love…

Villa San Juan Capistrano Wedding, Part Two
Jason and Lindsay

Happy fall weekend everybody! As you cuddle up in your PJs this Saturday morning with a Pumpkin Spice Latte and a maple scone slathered in honey butter (can you tell what I’m craving right now?), we have even more fall goodness to fill your appetite, because Jason and Lindsay had a gorgeous fall wedding with all of the yellows, oranges, and reds you could wish for. Their rustic wedding at The Villa San Juan Capistrano was sweet, lovely, and emotional – everything we could want with a wedding at one of our favorite venues. After the ceremony, we photographed Jason and Lindsay for…

Villa San Juan Capistrano Wedding, Part One
Jason and Lindsay

There was an overwhelming sense of legacy and tradition with Jason and Lindsay’s wedding day. A true passing of the torch from one generation to the next. The honor, respect, and love that these two show to their parents and their grandparents wasn’t just sweet, it was admirable. Families like this melt my heart because it makes a wedding so much more than just a celebration. It’s a true ceremony where two families and all of their generations get to take part in acknowledging the union of two people. And this union will truly be a powerful one, because Lindsay…

Cafe Pinot Wedding, Part Two
Luke and Victoria

As my friends know, I’m kind of a library-nut. I go crazy for anything that has to do with books, literature, and libraries in general, so when Luke and Victoria planned a library-themed wedding at one of my favorite venues in downtown LA, Cafe Pinot, I just about went bonkers. Well, in many ways, I actually did go bonkers over their seriously cute details – books upon books upon books layered the tables and the details. Even the stationary was book-themed (looking very Gatsby-esque), and sections of the wedding were labeled as chapters – the invitations being Chapter I, the…

Cafe Pinot Wedding, Part One
Luke and Victoria

Luke and Victoria had been on one date and one date only. But the timing just wasn’t right and six months had gone by faster than they both realized. Victoria had moved and switched jobs, and when life felt a little more settled, she thought about the funny, down-to-earth guy she had gone out with earlier that year. She wanted to call, but didn’t know what to say. Luckily, Victoria didn’t have to think long, because the funny, down-to-earth guy called her instead. Luke had been seeing mini-coopers almost every day since their first date, and he realized that it was because he couldn’t…

Huntington Beach Wedding, Part Two
Steve and Noelle

Welcome back to the second half of Steve and Noelle’s wedding in Huntington Beach. We had such a fun time with these two and their friends while shooting at the Hyatt – they’re such a fun group that laughs together constantly. I loved the floor-length emerald dresses that Noelle chose with the cascading florals to match – in honor of her Irish blood. Plus, the guys were looking extra sharp in their black suits and skinny ties. Love! 1 person loves this 1 person loves this 1 person loves this 2 people love this 1 person loves this 1 person loves…

Huntington Beach Wedding, Part One
Steve and Noelle

When we last saw Steve and Noelle, they were just about to embark on a grand adventure of living in London. That was a year ago, and since then they’ve traveled their hearts out and made the most of their time living abroad. The best part is that they came back to the place where both of them grew up to tie the knot in Huntington Beach. It became clear to me during their wedding day, that it didn’t matter where in the world these this California-raised duo found themselves. They could be walking around the block or flying around the world…

Montage Laguna Beach Wedding, The Film
Nate and Susan

It’s been a film kind of week dear bloggy-blog, and today is continuing the goodness with the medium format images we made at Nate and Susan’s wedding at the Montage Laguna Beach. The color, texture, depth, and detail of film is something that I live for – there’s simply nothing like it! We photographed these on our Contax 645 on Kodak Portra 400 and 800 film, and this is quickly becoming our all-time favorite kit – particularly for weddings as classic and stunning as Nate and Susan’s! 1 person loves this 1 person loves this 1 person loves this 1…

Wedding Albums by The Youngrens

When a couple gets engaged, their families start pulling out the old black and white wedding photos of their grandparents and opening up their wedding albums to share about their special days, laughing and crying while flipping through the prints and pages. A few decades from now, when our kids or nieces and nephews are all grown up and ready to get married themselves, we’ll retrieve those black and white prints and re-open up the wedding books of our parents to relive those stories we were once told. But then, we’ll also pull from our coffee tables or treasured bookshelves our own wedding albums, and we’ll find ourselves laughing and crying just as…

The Loft on Pine Wedding, The Film
Adam and Kim

Oh my dear lovely… When I think that a wedding is perfect, the film comes back, and I swoon all over again! Adam and Kim’s wedding at The Loft on Pine in Long Beach was a lovely fit for film images – the colors and textures transferred so beautifully to medium format. Today’s post is like opening a Christmas present in January – there’s even MORE to enjoy! 1 person loves this LOVE! 1 person loves this 1 person loves this One of my favorites! It just doesn’t get any more perfect than this! 1 person loves this Those eyes…

Montage Laguna Beach Wedding, Part Two
Nate and Susan

Nate and Susan’s wedding at the Montage Laguna Beach was simply magical! The day looked stunning with the beautiful floral work of Sticks and Stones, and everything moved flawlessly thanks to the veteran expertise of Paula Laskelle of Champagne Taste. We enjoyed every second of working with Paula and her team, and are so thankful to have had a group of vendors that was dedicated to making this day perfect for Nate and Susan. And perfect it was – from the serene ceremony by the sea to our walk along the beach afterward to the grand party thrown by Ricky and the…

Montage Laguna Beach Wedding, Part One
Nate and Susan

Watching Nate and Susan glide around the ballroom to mingle with their friends and family felt as natural and timeless as the gorgeous orchids  that were glimmering with candlelight in their tall centerpiece vases.  There was a cocktail of jazz music and dinner conversations floating through the room, and all of the guests were right at home with each other because they were brought together by the warmhearted Nate and Susan. In fact, Nate and Susan’s laughter felt like the cherry on top of the custom cocktail they – together – have created. Mix in a touch of salty sea air and the sound of…

Jeff & Kristina’s San Juan Capistrano Wedding

Labor Day weekend was just what the life doctor ordered dear bloggy-blog. I’d like to say that I lounged by the beach, barbecued with friends, or took an exotic weekend vacation, but my weekend looked more dreamy than that – at least dreamy to my introverted self. I stayed in my PJs, cleaned the house, caught up on my podcasts, finally sewed lost buttons back on favorite shirts, went to happy hour with friends, finished season 4 of Downtown Abbey, and re-read one of my most cherished childhood novels, The Giver, in preparation to watch the movie this week. It was awesome….

The Loft on Pine Wedding, Part Two
Adam and Kim

Today’s post is goo-oo-ood with the second half of Kim and Adam’s chic wedding at The Loft on Pine, a recently renovated theater that opened as a wedding venue this year. This location is simply magical with it’s lofty windows, textured interior, and vaulted event space where the ceremony and reception were both held. Kim and Adam left no detail untouched, and with the help of Bloomin Bride Designs and Greenhouse DJs, they transformed the sweet ceremony into an elegant soiree for dinner and dancing. I love the gold painted glass bottles that they used throughout the decor to add a touch…

The Loft on Pine Wedding, Part One
Adam and Kim

If love were a backflip, it would be the love that Adam and Kim share. Literally. Because when Adam proposed and Kim said yes, Adam did a backflip. Right there on the Santa Monica pier where his knee had touched the ground, he spun over backwards – kind of like his heart had just done when he asked the most important question of his life. (And there’s proof of it too thanks to the wonderful Boone and Stacie Frenzel). And I have reason to believe that Adam’s heart will be doing backflips of joy for the rest of his life, because the…

Santa Margarita Ranch Wedding, The Film
Patrick and Kelsey

As promised last week with Kevin and Morgan’s destination wedding in Sun Valley, we’re showing off more of the film images we’ve been making at our recent weddings. Today’s lucky post is Patrick and Kelsey’s rustic wedding at Santa Margarita Ranch just outside of San Luis Obispo. This sweet central coast wedding took place on the old ranch grounds located on the historic El Camino Real, and it was a dream to photograph the rustic buildings, railroad tracks, and golden hills surrounding the giant barn where the festivities took place. Of course, Patrick and Kelsey were just as dreamy to photograph with film, and…

Sun Valley Destination Wedding, The Film
Kevin and Morgan

Oh the joys of summer – the sun, the heat, the travel, and the gorgeous destinations! Jeff and I have been toting our Contax 645 everywhere we go and loving the film images it produces at our lovely weddings lately. The creamy, soft colors turn any sweet moment into a heart melting one! In fact, I didn’t think I could love Kevin and Morgan’s destination wedding at the Sun Valley Resort in Idaho any more than I already do, but then the film came back, and I just about passed out from excitement! I’m so in love with these images, and its definitely…

Josh & Corinne’s LA Estate Wedding

It’s no secret that I love bragging on our stylish and talented couples, but it’s so great when other people brag on them too, particularly when it’s the people at Style Me Pretty! Josh and Corinne’s lovely garden wedding in Los Angeles was just featured on the Little Black Book blog AND the California blog – double brag! Corinne is a style maven, and she put together a fabulously sweet wedding at Josh’s parents’ estate. So much so, that after her amazing wedding, she launched her own business, House of Hartt, that provides stylish vintage rentals for weddings and events. We’re so PROUD…

Santa Margarita Ranch Wedding, Part Two
Patrick and Kelsey

Patrick and Kelsey’s wedding at Santa Margarita Ranch felt incredibly heartwarming to photograph because the venue itself is downright inviting. The historic ranch was a stopping point on the old El Camino Real, the road that connected all of California’s 21 missions, so the buildings simply embody history. It was the perfect place to celebrate a fun-loving and kind couple like Patrick and Kelsey, and their guests were blown away by the beautiful location surrounded by rolling hills. I love the old rustic barn in which the reception took place, complete with gorgeous stone walls, old rafters, and romantic string lighting to complete the…

Santa Margarita Ranch Wedding, Part One
Patrick and Kelsey

Patrick simply can’t believe that a girl as kind, generous, and loving as Kelsey would marry him. She’s strong, beautiful, and thoughtful with a hilarious sense of humor. What Patrick doesn’t realize, though, is that Kelsey feels the same way. She can’t believe that someone as funny, creative, and compassionate as Patrick would marry her. He’s sensitive, caring, and upbeat with a witty outlook on life. And that’s such a wonderful place to be – to feel endlessly lucky when you look into the eyes of the person you’re spending your life with. To joyfully wonder how you managed to win…

Sun Valley Destination Wedding, Part Two
Kevin and Morgan

Kevin and Morgan are a sweet, positive, and heartfelt Seattle couple that held a destination wedding in Sun Valley, Idaho, that Jeff and I have been looking forward to for MONTHS. Not only have I been dying to shoot in the mountains of my home state, but I’ve been dying to celebrate with such a fun-loving couple as Kevin and Morgan. These two have the best of friends and the most tight-knit, heart warming community around them. It was such a treat to share in a celebration that was clearly a big deal for an entire Seattle community of friends and family. Today, we’re…

Sun Valley Destination Wedding, Part One
Kevin and Morgan

When Kevin came over for dinner to meet Morgan’s parents for the first time, he did the dishes. Completely unprompted. Boys, if there’s any way to instantly win over the parents of the girl you love, do the dishes after dinner. In fact, it will not only win over her parents, but her entire family, their friends, and the girl herself. And girls, if there’s any boy you should instantly fall in love with, it’s the boy that does the dishes after dinner. Kevin is the kindest, most wonderful man that Morgan knows. He’s funny, welcoming, responsible, and of course, good-mannered. There…
