The inky sky melted around us as the sun disappeared behind the horizon, and soft clouds blanketed our heads as if tucking us in together for the best wedding of our lives. Between swigs of wine and laughter came trays of delicious Tuscan cuisine, the kind of food that fills your heart and your belly with a deep love for the place. It was nothing less than a feast, lit by candlelit smiles and backed by Italian songs sung by musicians and, every once in a while, belted by the entire assembly of guests. When it came time for the toasts after a round of raised wine glasses and “Que sera sera!”, Ally took his glass and thanked this beautiful group of people for coming to Italy. “This is where Katie and I lived for over a year,” he said and then turned his eyes across the crowd to his beautiful bride. “And it also happens to be the place where we fell in love.”
Ladies and gentlmen, let me introduce you to Lucca, Italy, a place that captures everything good and romantic about the Italian spirit. But more importantly, let me know introduce you to Katie and Ally, two people from Scotland that fell in love with each other while living in and falling in love with Lucca. These two remind me so much of Jeff and me – they love life, they love Italy, and they madly love each other. We spent a week with these guys and their hundred Scottish and Irish wedding guests capturing the festivities and memories of the ultimate Italian destination wedding. Since we had only spoken with these guys over the phone and didn’t meet until we arrive in Lucca, we started off our time with a quick lifestyle engagement session around the streets of Lucca.
As soon as we started shooting these two, we realized it was going to be an amazing week! These guys were super fun, but definitely knew how to work the camera!
I love these guys – they’re so cute!
We took a little tour around Lucca to visit Katie and Ally’s favorites spots from when they lived here. It was right after they started dating that they moved to Lucca and ended up staying for over a year.
This is the front door to their apartment which is right next to one of our favorite piazzas.
We then visited the old wall that circles the town.
I love these ones and I love how much they laugh together.
So cute!
Ally kept making fun of us saying that Jeff loves doors and I love benches when we shoot. Well, if you guys wouldn’t look so cute on benches and in front of doors…
I love, love, love Katie’s eyes!
And I love Ally’s smile!
We stopped by the street where they lived on our way to the piazza where they got engaged.
And made a detour on a pizza truck!
Ally proposed to Katie on a cold winter’s night in Piazza San Michele, which is one of the most picturesque Italian piazzas you’ll ever see.
My favorite series of the session. Katie definitely worked it!
So gorgeous!
We stopped by a cafe in the piazza for some cafe and pastries.
Then strolled over to their favorite pizza place that quickly became our favorite pizza place too! In fact, I change my mind. THIS is my favorite series of the session!
There’s TONS more to come from Ally and Katie’s destination wedding in Italy, including the beautiful church ceremony and the Tuscan countryside reception at the adorable Casa Gialla. Stay tuned!
Hugs,
Erin
