5:00am

My internal clock had had enough and clicked on at 5am this morning. Or to be precise, at 2pm. Or to be exactly precise, at 14:00. As my body lounged in the luxurious softness of our own bed, my rational mind came to the realization that I wasn’t going to get any more sleep, but my other mind, the one I love and cherish and that makes way too many of my decisions, revolted. The blurry dials were not going to change, I wasn’t going to be hungry for breakfast, and it was way to early to be doing anything, in ANY time zone! So I shoved my limp body out of the clutches of our memory foam mattress topper and rolled onto my left side – straight into Jeff’s armpit. As my cold nose collided with the inner-most scoop of Jeff’s t-shirt, he snorted and twitched, throwing his outstretched arm downward onto my head. Caught between inner arm and sweaty outer chest, I gave a muffled screech and pushed my body out of his surprisingly strong sleep-grip. Jeff mumbled something from within his slumber and turned away on his side.

As I sat in shock that he could sleep through such a freeze-nose incident, I realized that long ago I had learned to watch out for The Armpit because our soft bed put me at just the right depth. My nose = his armpit. However, the beds in Italy are hard as rock. And I’m not exaggerating. Not even a sidewalk would be comfortable on Italian beds. As such, my nose was much higher than his armpit and every time I turned over I could easily rest my cheek on the top of his chest.

You see, even the hard beds make me miss Italy.

Jeff and I arrived back in San Diego last night at 8:00pm (or to be precise, 5:00am), and already we are having Italy withdrawals. We loved everything about Italia – the food, the wine, the people, the colors, the textures, the language – and we are already trying to figure out how to go back! This is just a quick post to say that we are safe and sound and that I am back in the office working through the inbox of all inboxes. Thank you to everyone for the prayers and well wishes while we were away!

I am going to try my darndest to get lots of pictures on the blog for everyone, but it will take me a few days to process the gigantom amount of images that we took! I can’t wait!

Hugs,

Erin

Don’t you love the “3 hour” return flight home and the jet lag? I woke up between 4 and 5 am every day for a week when I got back, but I was there 4 months. I’m planning my trip to Austria in April right now. I can’t wait to go back to Europe! And I can’t wait to see the pictures you guys took.
