FAQ Fridays: An Introduction

Erin and I love to share, and we consider ourselves to be total open books when it comes to photography. We definitely remember what it was like when we were first starting out: the questions, the uncertainty, the search for some semblance of help in a world that was growing noisier and noisier and more confusing and complicated every day. It was kind of overwhelming, and my guess is that many of you have found yourselves in the same exact spot that we were in.

We’ve always done our best to respond to the e-mails and Facebook messages that people have sent our way, and we’ve noticed something over time: a lot of you have the exact same questions. So in the interest of keeping these awesome conversations out in the open for others to benefit, we’re going to start doing FAQ posts every Friday. We’re even going to be super clever (or really not clever at all!) and call it F.A.Q. Friday.

If you’ve got a question, go ahead and post it up in the comments of this FAQ post, or any future FAQ Friday post, and we’ll do our best to answer it as soon as we can here on the blog. We’ll cover everything from shooting, to post production, to client interactions, to album design, to just plain business. We’ll even try to offer up pointers every once in a while for all our wonderful friends on here who aren’t pros, but appreciate great photography and want to know how to get better images out of their point and shoots! This is going to be so fun!

Let’s get the conversation started – what questions do you have?

The First FAQ Friday will be “What’s in Our Bag” and will be posted this Friday so be sure to come back and check that out. Super excited to see where this goes!

And because every post is way cooler with an image, I leave you with an image from our trip to Tuscany earlier this year. Enjoy!

Here’s a question for you:
What sharpening method do you guys use?
All of your images have a special “crisp-ness” to them. What’s the secret?

Thanks!

Question: What program do you guys edit in? and do you guys shoot wide open? The light is always so awesome in your pictures!!

This does sound fun! I have a few questions.

If you only could use one lens for an entire wedding which would you choose? And…would you and Erin choose the same lens or different ones?

I can’t remember if you have a studio or not…but if not, where do you meet up with clients or where would you recommend for photographers who don’t have their own studio?

Thanks!

Heather

I’m shooting RAW+JPEG and find that I never end up using the JPEG for anything except maybe previewing in the Finder. I’m thinking that I should shoot in RAW only to save space on the CF card, but can’t convince myself to drop the JPEG.

What do you guys do – RAW+JPEG or RAW only?

Thanks to you guys for taking the time to do this!

Where do you two get those stunning good looks from? :)

Looking forward to seeing you in a few weeks!

Ummmm can I get the picture you posted with this entry blown up to the size of my bedroom wall, so I can hang it there and feel like I’m waking up in the most incredible light every morning?

PS…Erin I saw your text from last night….I know! We’ll connect soon! Tonight perhaps? I’ll give you a call. =)

Yay! Can’t wait! Thanks so much for sharing. I guess my question would be…what are the most important things you got from reading Fast Track Photographer, and how have you incorporated them into your lives/business? I think Erin was the one that mentioned this book in a previous post. I bought it and am loving the new ideas it’s opening up to me :-)

Do you secretly turn into superheros at night or something? I feel like there is this intense force between you two & saving the world. Am I correct? :-)
