The world is wilder at two years old. The rocks are just a little weirder, the cool steel of a train track feels colder and stronger in your palm, the railroad ties are rougher beneath your feet, and the crunch of a dry autumn leaf crinkling in your tiny hand sounds infinitely fascinating. The wet dirt is so close that it becomes overwhelming, until you touch it and know that the earth will keep breathing even if your pounding feet run all over its soft, fragrant surface.
I admire the eyes of two year olds. Their fascination with all things wild and wonderful warms my heart in a way that only a child's imagination can. They are unconcerned with the cameras that are pointing at them. They don't mind the sound of clicking shutters. We, as photographer and as adults, are just observers that linger in the background of their adventures.
Jeff and I met up with the Toney family this past week for some family photos and to document the life of their energetic two-year-old son, Isaiah. Courtney Toney is the creative and fabulous soul behind Joyful Weddings and Events, and she is one of the best wedding coordinators we know. Seriously, if you're looking for someone to help you dream and design a one-of-a-kind and incredibly stylish event, Courtney is definitely your girl! But not only is she a fabulous wedding coordinator, she's a fantastic mom, and we instantly fell in love with the fun and adventurous Isaiah!

Isaiah LOVES trains, so we met up at Old Poway Park where there are several old (unused) train tracks and some retired boxcars on display. Let's just say Isaiah had a blast!
Isaiah with dad, David. These two make my heart melt!
Isaiah spent the morning exploring all of the train tracks, which was fine with us because he's totally adorable!
I love this one because Isaiah has this super mischievous grin. I wonder what thoughts lie behind those eyes?
Jeff let Isaiah "snap" some pictures, and I think I melted a thousand times! How cute is this??!!
This was the picture he got! Ha!
Isaiah definitely loved being able to play, so when he had to sit still for some photos, he would get these tiny grumpy faces! Isaiah, you make me laugh!
This is what happens when you follow a kid around with a camera for a while. You get some pretty stinkin' cute stuff.
The beautiful family!
My favorites of the day
Actually, I think this is my favorite! Give a boy his favorite octopus toy and let him march free. You can say it. Awwww...
Ha! David asked for a kiss and this was Isaiah's response!
Courtney, David, and Isaiah: Thank you so much for sharing your love with us! We adore your family and feel so lucky to be a small part of capturing it! Love you guys!
