Everyday Luxury

Jeff asked me over an afternoon of Kona Brewing and happy hour nachos what everyday luxury item I would buy if money was no option. It couldn’t be anything crazy  - no cars or vacation homes in the French countryside. Just an everyday item that I wanted to splurge on but just couldn’t justify the cost. His answer was easy. The Fujifilm FinePix x100. It’s the everyday luxury point and shoot camera perfect for two kinds of folks – pro photographers or guys that have too much money. It took a few seconds as I rambled it around in my…

Crying Over Spilled Salt PLUS a Giveaway!

You know how they say you shouldn’t cry over spilled milk? What about spilled salt? ‘Cuz I definitely did. On New Year’s Eve of 2009, I won the cutest salt and pepper shakers from Anthropologie at a bridal shower for one of our brides. At the time, I didn’t have the slightest clue as to how to decorate my kitchen, but these three inch tall ‘S’ and ‘P’ shaped salt and pepper shakers were a lively pattern of red, yellow, orange, blue, and green. When I brought them home and lovingly placed them on my kitchen table, I realized that I…

Love Notes that Stick

I’m a little forgetful. Ok, a LOT forgetful. But only when it comes to sweets. And when I say ‘sweets’, I mean when Jeff says really sweet things about me. One day he’ll tell me that he thinks I’m a wonderful writer and go on and on and on about my entertaining stories, but the next day I’ll be banging my head against the desk moaning that I’m awful at writing and should never have started. I’ve forgotten. I don’t want to admit how many times we’ve had this dialogue: Me: “You never say I’m pretty. When was the last…

The Youngrens are on Pinterest. Finally.

I feel a mixture of embarrassment and excitement. I’ve finally joined the masses on Pinterest. Finally. It’s not unusual for me to be behind the times. I didn’t get a cell phone until college. All of my friends were texting by sophomore year. Of high school. And I’m SO EXCITED about Pinterest. Way more than I ever was about signing up for Facebook or Twitter. The only other thing that has given me this much thrill over technology was signing up for Instagram (jeffyoungren, erinyoungren if you want to follow us). If you’re one of those people like me who…

The Sperrys

Jeff has a thing for boat shoes. They’re like clouds on his feet, he says. When he bought the green pair below, he was just beside himself that he found a pair of shoes that combined his two shoe loves – Sperrys and Vans. And when he saw this adorable yellow pair of boat shoes while walking through Nordstrom, he just couldn’t help himself. “They make Sperry’s for WOMEN!” I think every head in the shoe department turned toward us. Even an infant that was asleep in it’s stroller slowly cranked it’s head around and dramatically rolled it’s eyes. And…

Erin-Sized Pancakes

Jeff’s favorite breakfast dish to make me is mini-pancakes. He calls them Erin-sized pancakes, because I have this particular *thing* for mini pancakes… It’s not anything weird, but I just think that mini-pancakes are way better than regular sized pancakes in every way, shape, and form. It’s so much more thrilling to eat a mini-sized pancake. They’re teeny, and for some reason that teeny-ness makes me take my breakfast a little less seriously. But I think the real reason I love mini-pancakes is because Jeff knows that I love them. When he makes pancakes, he always makes them small just…

Kisses on the Grand Canal

In 2009, we celebrated in Venice. In 2010, we were traveling Southeast Asia. This year, we’re riding scooters around our neighborhood in San Diego. It never seems to matter where we are or what we’re doing. Valentine’s Day has always made me fall in love all over again. Hugs, Erin

Best Monday Ever

I woke up with a horrible case of the Cranky Pants on Monday morning. And like most Cranky-Pants syndromes, it was for absolutely no reason. Jeff and I have learned to communicate in very special ways and we’ve figured out that when I wake up a little *eh-hem* off-kilter that I just need to let him know. That’s it. I just need to say right away that I’m not feeling in a very happy mood, and then I check myself into a Starbucks for the rest of the day and just write about it. So as I was rolling out…
