Warning: Stretchy Pants Required

It’s our first time ever cooking a turkey and we’re doing it today. All of our family is out of town for Thanksgiving this year, so Jeff and I decided to throw a big post-Thanksgiving feast for all of our friends in town. We’ve been spending the past two weeks shopping, renting, and decorating for this occasion and our dinner table has been set up with place settings and namecards since Wednesday.  Which should tell you two things. One, we love to entertain for our friends, and two, we love to entertain for our friends a little TOO much.

So back to the turkey – I’m incredibly nervous about cooking my first ever turkey for so many people. The biggest party foul that can happen today is that we run out of food or the food tastes terrible, so I’m over thinking everything in an effort to avoid these two catastrophes. Jeff has run to the grocery store twice this morning, I’ve been pacing the kitchen and readjusting my serving dishes since breakfast, and I keep double checking the turkeys to make sure they are in fact thawed completely and not just wearing cushy coats or something. Yes, you read that right. I said turkeys. As in multiple turkeys. We’ve both been so nervous about the food situation that we ended up buying two turkeys instead of one, you know, just in case one 20 pound turkey wouldn’t be enough. So instead we’ve had almost 40 pounds of turkey thawing in our fridge for 5 days. And I’m still afraid it’ll disappear faster than Gracie when friends come over.

What is wrong with me???

So to our friends that will be joining us today, I wasn’t kidding when I said to bring your appetite and your stretchy pants. Everything is prepped and ready, and in t-minus two hours, we’re going to be popping the olive jars and cracking open some wine. To everybody else, hope your holiday was fantastic and we’ll see you on Monday!

Hugs,
Erin
