Windsor’s roommate told her that she needed to date Alex because “he’s from the South, he goes to church, and he calls his mom every Sunday.” As if those aren’t perfect reasons enough, Alex first told Windsor he loved her on top of the Eiffel Tower and surprised her with a four day trip to Jamaica to propose.
It’s kind of ridiculous how incredibly perfect Alex and Windsor appear to the world. They’re gorgeous and kind, energetic and warm, smart and successful, and totally in love. They were raised in the South, fell in love at Harvard, and work in exciting careers in Boston. But the thing I love most about these two is that they have a quirky streak that comes out when they’re together, which tells me that these two have built a wonderful little world between them. A space in which they are nothing but themselves, every bit known, and completely safe. It’s a small world of which we are only spectators, but blessed because of what we see.
We met Windsor and Alex last year when Windsor was a bridesmaid in Jeff and Kristina’s San Juan Capistrano wedding, and Jeff and I knew immediately that we needed to photograph their wedding – whenever it would happen. Turns out, they would get married exactly one year later, and we would be flying out to North Carolina to capture it all! Windsor is one the founders and current president of Her Campus, an online magazine for college-age women, and I just have to brag on this girl for a moment because she was named in Business Week’s 25 Under 25 Best Young Entrepreneurs and Inc Magazine’s 30 Under 30 Coolest Young Entrepreneurs. We have the most stylish brides ever, but when you’ve got a fabulously successful girl that runs a magazine getting married, her wedding is going to be OFF. THE. HOOK.
Windsor was born and raised in Asheville, North Carolina, so she and Alex returned to her home for their southern wedding. Folks, this day was a marathon… a morning church ceremony with men in tails, a classy afternoon brunch reception at The Venue in downtown Asheville, photos and sweet tea at the Grand Bohemian Hotel, and then a rockin’ backyard BBQ at Windsor’s childhood home complete with a southern rock band, delectable homestyle food, plenty of bourbon, and s’mores over a giant fire pit. Because this was an epic event filled with mountains of details, loads of emotional moments, and gaggles of beautiful people, we have our first official three-parter wedding blog post of the year!! Woohoo! Stay tuned over the next three days as we unveil the incredible style and sweet hearts of Alex and Windsor – I can barely wait to share! It’s all soooo beautiful!
We’re starting off this three-day journey with the ladies and gents getting prepped at the Grand Bohemian Hotel just across the street from the grand Biltmore Estate.
This was just the tip of the fabulous iceberg for Alex and Windsor’s southern wedding in Asheville, so we’ll see you right back here tomorrow morning for Part Two when we get to show off the rest of afternoon brunch at The Venue. You definitely don’t want to miss the next two days!!
Hugs,
Erin
