To find your home in another person’s heart is an absolute miracle. To know that you’re going to spend the rest of your life journeying by their side is something I still find so beautifully remarkable.
But to also know where you’re going to spend the rest of your life with that person is truly amazing. Mark and Kaitlyn have found their home in one another, but they have also found their lifelong home on the ranch on which they live. They both manage, care for, and curate this Montana cattle ranch with all of their hearts, and they both know that this is the place where they will invest their days, raise their family, and grow old together. So it only made sense that this should be the place where they say, ‘I Do.’
When Jeff and I were in Montana last year for their engagement session, we helped Mark & Kaitlyn pick out the very location on the ranch on which they would get married – a picture-perfect setting surrounded by golden hay fields, lined with cottonwoods, and backed by blue mountain peaks.
I love that they will forever have this spot – not too far from the front steps of their house. As the years move on, hay will grow and get cut and grow again over the place they said ‘I Do’. They will go on horseback rides and watch the dogs run through the field where their friends and family celebrated with them. Snow and rain and drought and cattle will change its appearance, but it will always be the same.
Mark and Kaitlyn’s wedding was the perfect reflection of who they are – a cowboy that fell in love with a cowgirl that wanted to celebrate with all of the community around them, dogs and horses included. We spent the day overlooking the valley for their First Look, shooting with their horses in a barley field for their portraits, playing with their dogs at the ceremony, and celebrating until the wee hours of the morning in the barn. There was nothing that could have been better!
