It never loses it’s magic…
The emotions of meeting a newborn baby still catch us off guard. The quiet, precious moments unexpectedly squeeze our chests at the worst moments rendering both of us awkwardly speechless. Breathless. Even though we’ve been here before and know what to expect, the wonderful emotions are still very much the same. They’re familiar now, though not any less vivid or strong. Like taking a shot of whiskey, we know what to expect but it doesn’t make the drink any weaker. In fact, it just makes the whole thing that much more exciting. And I say that in the best way possible… (I promise…Dave would understand).
Our good friends, Dave and Jenny Cross, have just given birth to their fourth child so this is the fourth time that we’ve arrived in the hospital – camera in tow – to capture their new baby’s first moments. Its amazing how every birth seems like the first one based on the overwhelmingly intense love, wonder, and excitement that we all feel towards this brand new member of their family. This time, Jeff and I were meeting Harper, and it was a very peaceful visit with just the five of us.
Even though Jeff and I don’t normally photograph newborns or babies, being able to capture these moments for our best friends (and for our personal selves) makes us so grateful that we get to have the job that we do. In fact, I loved the images we captured so much that I just couldn’t help but share just a handful here. Aren’t these moments just magical?
I have a feeling that Harper is going to be a daddy’s girl…
Hugs,
Erin
